Education is the key to success not for just our children but for our economic viability as a state. In order for Arizona to attract and keep successful businesses we must invest in education at all levels, from preschool through university. I oppose any efforts to divert precious taxpayer dollars to private and parochial schools. Our public school system is the very foundation of our democracy and our success as a nation. I have been and will continue to be a strong and vocal advocate for our public school teachers.
Legislative District 2 is home to one of the most important economic drivers in the State of Arizona – Nogales. Billions of dollars in international trade flow through our border crossings in Nogales. Visitors from south of the border come to Arizona to shop and tour our great state. We neglect this critical area at our own peril. I will advocate for the federal government to invest the necessary human resources at the border crossings in Nogales to insure the smooth flow of trade and visitors to Arizona. I will work with my colleagues in the legislature to insure that our Congressional delegation understand the needs of this area.
I have long been and will continue to be an ardent support of women’s rights, including women’s reproductive rights. I value and respect women’s moral agency and believe that women must be able to make decisions about their lives and their families without government intrusion. I will oppose any legislative attempts that would deny women’s moral agency.
